Scholarship opportunity

The Blue Pencil Online: Where High School Writers Publish


The Blue Pencil Online announces the new Elizabeth Bishop Prizes in Verse, Fiction, and Playwriting, offering $45,000 in scholarships. Each Bishop Prize winner will receive a $15,000 scholarship to the Writing & Publishing Program at Walnut Hill*, in addition to a copy of Elizabeth Bishop’s Poems, Prose, and Letters, published by The Library of America, a steadfast supporter of the Prizes.

Chester County Teen Artists for Animals Logo Contest

Theme: "Chester County SPCA, Bringing Animals and People Together"

Submission Deadline: Midnight, December 1, 2009
Winner announced, Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Eligibility:
Students aged 13-19 as of December 7, 2009, enrolled full-time at middle/high schools, art schools, colleges, community colleges or universities in Chester County are eligible to enter. Only US citizens are eligible for cash prize.

Requirements
Artist statement of originality
Faculty statement to endorse student entry as original
Release form with complete contact information
Logo must meet size limitations and be 1 color

Artwork:
All image files for the initial entry should be submitted as jpeg (under 1MB) and be sized to fit on a 20 inch monitor screen. The file size (in KB or MB) will vary depending on the size of the original artwork and the media in which it was created. If the are is selected as the winning entry, then the image file should be submitted to the contest administrator at higher resolution so the art can be printed at the size it was created. This will vary, but should be between 150 and 300 dpi and generally be 1MB or larger in size. When the winner is chosen we will need the highest resolution size possible. Award: Cash Prize $500

Evaluation Criteria:
The logo entries will be judged by the Board of the Chester County SPCA and evaluated on the creativity and originality in demonstration the tagline: "Chester County SPCA, Bringing Animals and People Together"

Essay Contest

Interested in cash prizes up to $1,000?


PA. Institute of Certified Public Accountants' of the Greater Phila. Chapter with relations with Schools and Colleges Committee invites you to take part in an Annual High School Essay Contest.  


There are 4 Topics to choose From:

• Do you think public figures (athletes, actors, politicians, etc.) are above the law?

• What  famous person, dead or alive, would you spend the day with and why?

• How will businesses use social media to reach your generation in the future?

• Home ownership: How do you achieve the American dream?


Choose any topic and you could be a winner! 


Entries must include a cover sheet found at  [ www.picpa.org ] www.picpa.org with the student's high, class year, and e-mail address, as well as the sponsoring teacher's name, phone number,  and e-mail address.  

The student's name must not appear anywhere else on the essay!

Contest

Has a book helped you rise above difficult situations or intrigued you to meet new characters and experiences with exciting adventures?  If so,  why not enter the Letters about Literature Contest and possibly win a Target gift card of $100 or $500 as well as a Reading Promotion Grant of $1,000  or 10,000 for your school library.  If interested in writing a personal, reflective letter stop by the Writing Center or Media Center for more information and submission forms.
